Many international students choose Leeds as the cost of living is much lower than in London and other UK cities. Shops and restaurants will offer you a discount if you show your Leeds Metropolitan Students' Union card. Leeds is a multicultural city and has many specialist food shops where you can buy ingredients from many countries, including India and China. There are also places of worship for all major religions. If you're interested in exploring the UK during your time in Leeds, London is only two hours away, and Edinburgh is just three hours away. The city has excellent train and bus links, and Leeds Bradford Airport has regular flights to many international destinations.
The University's origins can be traced back to 1824, with the foundation of the Leeds Mechanics Institute. They have a mixture of old and new buildings on their campuses - the oldest building is at their Headingley Campus and dates back to 1752.
