LONDON

The capital city of England and the pride of U.K has the most diverse population of any European city, making it the most popular destination for students from overseas. Central London is home to the headquarters of most of the UK's top 100 listed companies and more than 100 of Europe's 500 largest. London is a leading global city being one of the world's largest financial centers and has the largest city GDP in Europe. It is a major tourist destination for both domestic and overseas visitors.

Studying in London is not just about work, projects and exams. London offers an incredible variety of leisure and cultural opportunities.

As Samuel Johnson said,    "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life".

Whether you're a first time visitor, or have lived in London for years, there is always something exciting and new waiting to be discovered around the next corner. London is without doubt one of the most exciting and fascinating cities on earth. It is also one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. One in four of the population comes from an ethnic minority; over 300 languages are spoken here and 1.8 million overseas nationals call London home.

The London Underground commonly referred to as the Tube, is one of the oldest, longest, and most expansive metro systems in the world, dating from 1863. London's bus network is one of the largest in the world, running 24 hours a day, with 8,000 buses, 700 bus routes, and over 6 million passenger journeys made every weekday. London is a major international air transport hub with the largest city airspace in the world. Eight airports use the word London in their name, but most traffic passes through only five. London Heathrow Airport is the busiest airport in the world for international traffic. Although the majority of journeys involving Central London are made by public transport, car travel is common in the suburbs. The inner ring road (around the city centre), the North and South Circular roads (in the suburbs), and the outer orbital motorway (the M25) encircle the city. The M25 is the longest ring-road motorway in the world at 195.5 kms.

Home to a range of universities, colleges and schools, London has a student population of about 378,000 and is a centre of research and development. With 125,000 students, the University of London is the largest contact teaching university in the United Kingdom and in Europe. It comprises 20 colleges as well as several smaller institutes each with a high degree of autonomy. University College London and Imperial College London have been ranked among the top ten universities in the world. In 2009 UCL was ranked the 4th best and Imperial the 5th best university in the world. In addition, the London School of Economics has been described as the world's leading social science institution for teaching and research, and has the most international student body of any university in the world today.

London is also known globally for its business education, harboring several top-rated business schools: London Business School, Cass Business School and Imperial College Business School. In addition there are three international universities: Schiller International University, Richmond University and Regent's College.
