University of Derby provides you with a truly international experience having over 17,000 students studying including over 1000 international students from across 76 countries and 700 EU students from across 26 countries. Being a fully recognised and accredited English university, your qualifications will be recognised worldwide. The University of Derby has two safe campuses in the heart of the UK, 30 miles apart. They are both easy to get to by road, rail and air. Derby, a lively city, which is less than an hour from Birmingham and about an hour and a half from London by train and Buxton, a picturesque small town on the edge of the Peak District National Park – perfect if you like the countryside. Buxton is about an hour from Derby and Manchester and three hours from London. It’s a popular tourist destination with over one million visitors each year.

Most international students live in halls of residence – they are not far from the campuses and they are good value for money. The halls are comfortable, safe and convenient. They are made up of individual flats, with about six students living together, and have excellent facilities including; a well equipped shared kitchen, a bathroom, a coin operated laundry, on site 24 hour staff and security and free bike storage. Together with the council and the landlord, they assess all of the properties registered with them, so you can be confident that it will be safe and comfortable.

The welcome week for international students takes place a week before the UK students arrive. The university will introduce you to all aspects of the university and of living in England. You will get lots of practical information and advice, and you will meet the staff, explore Derby and Buxton and socialise with students from all over the world. It’s a good way to settle in, make friends and get your time at the University of Derby off to a great start.
