The United Kingdom
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (which is usually shortened to just the UK or United Kingdom)
is a political union made of up of four countries, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The UK has grown to become
one of the top destinations to study around the world. With traditions of excellence dating back hundreds of years, high
class institutions at every corner and much more flexibility than many other countries, the United Kingdom has much to offer
international students that other English-speaking countries cannot offer.
Total UK population will come around 60 million, of which around 92% of the population are white British. The largest
south Asians population in Britain are people of Indian descent. Indians in UK would make around 1.8% of UK population.
The other largest South Asians population in UK are Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. Pakistanis in UK will make around 1.3%
population of UK and Bangladeshis will make around 0.5% of UK population. Tamil Sri Lankans might make around 0.2% of
UK population. The people from other South Asian countries would make around another 0.2% of UK population.
The official religion of UK is Christianity; it is a multi faith society in which everyone has the right to religious
freedom. Although UK is historically a Christian society, people are usually very tolerant towards the faiths of others and
those who have no religious beliefs. Although religious faith in UK is predominantly Christian, most of the world’s
religions are also practiced. There are large Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh communities, and also smaller communities
of Buddhists, and Zoroastrians, as well as followers of new religious movements.
